Harvey Weinstein may have been shopping around a documentary about his experience as the figurehead that spawned the #MeToo movement, according to sources.
As reported by Page Six, before he surrendered to authorities on rape charges on Friday, Weinstein had been reaching out to industry people in order to gain some support to film this documentary, which was reportedly set to be called, "When This Is Over," which is presumably alluding to the myriad of sexual assault scandals that Weinstein has been hit with since the story originally broke. More than 80 women have come forward with stories about Weinstein's abusive behavior, including major Hollywood actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and Lupita Nyong'o.
"He’s been trying to get a documentary done on himself," according to the inside source. "He wanted to make a film he could control, he’d been calling people."
According to Weinstein however, the idea never existed in the first place. When reached out for comment, a representative for Weinstein said, "He isn’t interested in a documentary about his experience. Didn’t happen."
If the idea for the documentary were true, then he probably would have had to put it on hold when he found out he was wanted for charge of raping two women. As for the trial itself, Weinstein's lawyer, Ben Brafman, stated that Weinstein, "intends to file a motion to dismiss the charges as being legally flawed and not supported by credible evidence."
The idea that we'll be getting a Weinstein documentary in the future is actually fairly likely, though whether it'll be able to be made by him is still up for debate.
