Anderson .Paak opens up about Dr. Dre's pivotal role in shaping his upcoming album.
Aftermath's own Anderson .Paak has been hard at work on his upcoming album. Case in point, the talented artist recently told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe that he has approximately 65,000 songs in his personal vault. Clearly, the man is vying for a prolific run. While fans already know that .Paak is a visionary in his own right, his close proximity to the legendary Dr. Dre has raised many questions. Luckily, Paak took the opportunity to clear the air, opening up about the good Doctor's involvement in his upcoming project:
Absolutely. From top to bottom. He’s got a whole lot of trust in me. He let me just run free. He told me just do your thang. I would love to be a part of it. He told me, do I have to be part of it, no, but I really want to be. I was like you're definitely going to be a part of this, bro. And we’ve just been going back and forth with this music man for over two years now and just getting the right album that we really feel proud of. He's been very instrumental to taking it to the next level. That's the whole point when you’re working with a really good producer, you let them produce. It's dope, we got a lot of mutual respect for each other.
He continues, after Zane inquires further about Dre's role in shaping the album's direction. From the sound of it, the process is extremely collaborative, with Paak and Dre spring-boarding ideas as equals. " He's in there producing beats. He's in there producing melodies, writing, ideas on sequencing, everything," reveals Paak. "Just the biggest help just having him as the filter, everything. It's like whatever we need. Ideas for the videos, all that. We breaking everything down with the big homie."
While it might be a while before we hear another Dr. Dre album, at least his presence will be imbued within Paak's upcoming effort. In the meantime, catch Anderson .Paak's brand new single "Bubblin" right here - it's fire.
