William Strampel was arrested on Monday.

Larry Nassar's multiple sexual assault convictions are now beginning to effect those who had professional ties with the disgraced sports medicine doctor. William Strampel, the former dean of Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine and Nassar's longtime boss, has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and neglect of duty.

The 70 year-old was arrested yesterday afternoon and is being held at Ingham County jail in Michigan. The charges were filed early Tuesday morning in a district court, and they include fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct using force or coercion, as well as two misdemeanour counts of willful neglect of duty by a public officer. Strampel is also facing a felony "common law offences" charge, which alone could carry a maximum five-year incarceration period.

A spokesperson from the university has revealed that they will be 100% compliant with authorities as they conduct a further investigation into Strampel's actions.

Back in October 2016, Strampel allegedly told a group of individuals that he did not believe that Nassar had actually committed any crimes of sexual abuse, stating how "patients lie to get doctors in trouble. I don’t think any of these women were actually assaulted by Larry…As soon as I found out, I had to fire his ass. I didn’t want to, but what am I supposed to do?"

The school's Interim President John Engler has revealed that "allegations have arisen that question whether his personal conduct over a long period of time met MSU’s standards." This stems from an 2014 incident where the dean did not ensure that Nassar was properly chaperoned during a sensitive exam.
