Another prominent star is standing up for Gunn.

James Gunn was famously fired by Disney last month after decade-old tweets resurfaced online where the Guardians of the Galaxy director makes some vulgar and inappropriate jokes. Gunn satirically made fun of pedophilia and rape, along with several other topics that don't necessarily align with Disney's motives. Although the tweets are ten years old, Disney felt the need to cancel Gunn, and a long list of celebrities have stepped forward to voice their support for the director. The entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy signed a joint statement where they explain their reasons for standing behind the director, although it is doubtful that anyone will quit and risk being sued for breach of contract by Disney. Kurt Russell, who played Star-Lord's father in Guardians 2, recently spoke with Variety, and revealed that he thinks people are getting too sensitive.

“It’s sad. But it’s a part of our fabric now, and I get it,” Russell stated. “But I do think we’re getting a little too sensitive on maybe some of the wrong people. You have to realize that when you are in that world as a comedian, a writer, whatever you’re always stretching the boundaries and trying to find something which lead him to something that the world loves, which is Guardians of the Galaxy. He has a wonderful heart and a wonderful mind. I hope he is forgiven.”
