Missy Elliott is, without a doubt, one of hip-hop's true pioneers. Beginning two decades ago with her album Supa Dupa Fly, the Virginia native has staked her claim as one of the most talented rappers of her generation, inspiring countless female emcees that have found career success in the years since. Therefore, it's only fitting that another legend was on hand to present with a prestigious honor, recognizing her contributions to the music industry.
Janet Jackson, who supposedly flew in from the U.K., where she's currently touring, specifically to present Black Women in Music's Visionary Award to Missy, hit the rapper right in the feels during a heartfelt speech. "Some act, some choreograph, some write hit songs, some create whole new sounds, some women are able to make their mark in one of these fields, but there's only one woman who has made her mark in all these fields," Jackson said, as per E! News. "Not only have you made your mark, but she's done so with boldness and courage."

In reposting the video, Elliott had a similar emotional reaction looking back on the experience. "#IMGRATEFUL @janetjackson that u would fly over from the UK while on tour to present me with the #BlackWomenInMusic @essence Award last night," she wrote. "Of course I’M A BIG BABY & i COULD’NT STOP CRYING TEARS of HAPPINESS [...] I LOVE you sis for always being there for me from Day 1."
