The rollout changed days before release, with Kid Rock adding Lil Wayne and moving Eminem to another track.

Three days before Halfway 2 Jesus arrives, the collaboration that drew the most attention to Kid Rock’s new album has changed. Lil Wayne is now attached to “7 Sins,” the song originally announced with Eminem, while Rock moved his longtime Detroit friend elsewhere on the project.

“There’s been some people on the internet and whatnot, like there always is, that don’t seem to be too thrilled about my old friend of almost 40 years, Eminem, doing a song with me on my new album,” Rock said in a video shared Wednesday. “You folks will probably be happy to hear that he’s no longer on ‘7 Sins.’ Another very good friend of mine, Lil Wayne, is now on ‘7 Sins.’”

Rock then claimed Eminem wasn't completely gone. “It’ll probably not make you very happy to hear that Eminem is still on the album,” he said. “He’s just on another song now, called ‘Heal My Faith.’”

Eminem’s Appearance Had Already Become Part Of The Album’s Conversation

The feature attracted attention partly because Rock and Eminem have spent years on opposite sides of American politics. Rock has become a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, while Eminem has repeatedly criticized him. Rock addressed that contrast when first discussing Halfway 2 Jesus, saying their political differences had never been enough to end a friendship that stretches back decades.

“I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem,” Rock wrote. He said the two “differ politically and on other things” but have remained friends, framing the collaboration as an example of people maintaining relationships despite disagreement.

Their musical history reaches back much further than the current political divide. Eminem appeared on “F*ck Off” from Rock’s 1998 album Devil Without a Cause. Rock later appeared in Eminem’s “Berzerk” video in 2013. Further, Wayne also has history with Rock. The two performed “All Summer Long” together at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, and Wayne joined him again at that year's CMA Awards.

Halfway 2 Jesus is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17.
