The mystery is over as John Boyega reveals he’s been married for nearly two years, with Tae Heckard now using his last name.

The internet’s marriage detectives can finally clock out. After months of matching rings and increasingly obvious social-media clues, John Boyega confirmed he's been married for nearly two years. Actress Tae Heckard has filled in the remaining blank by updating her Instagram bio to read “Tae Boyega.” The confirmation came almost casually during a recent interview with The Guardian. When the reporter asked about the ring on his left hand, Boyega replied, “Oh yeah, this is my wedding ring. I’ve been married for coming up to two years now.”

He didn't name his wife during the interview, but the secrecy around their relationship had already thinned considerably. Heckard and Boyega had been spotted wearing wedding bands, and she shared glimpses of him on Instagram in September. Boyega also popped into her comments calling her “lover” while joking about her making pounded yam and egusi.

The timeline also means they were married well before the public caught on. Boyega and the former video vixen were first romantically linked after they were spotted together at Disneyland in April 2025. By May 2026, photos of Heckard wearing a diamond ring and wedding band, along with Boyega sporting a band of his own, had pushed speculation into overdrive.

John Boyega And Tae Heckard Are Also Expecting A Baby

Marriage wasn't the only part of Boyega’s private life he decided to share. He also revealed that his wife is pregnant with a baby boy, adding that he already has a young stepson. “My baby’s on the way. We got a baby cooking,” he said. Boyega added that family life has left him feeling “completely, completely fulfilled,” and that becoming a father has sharpened his priorities around being present at home.

Their wedding itself was intentionally small. Boyega said they skipped a traditional Nigerian celebration, though he has not ruled out doing something much bigger later. “We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry,” he explained. “And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”

That preference helps explain how the couple kept their marriage quiet long after celebrity-watchers began tracking their relationship. Even Boyega’s wedding band came without much ceremony. He said he picked up one of the rings he wears spontaneously during a trip to Walmart because he simply wanted one on his finger. Heckard and Boyega may have let the public spend months piecing together the clues, but they were already well into married life by the time anyone started asking.
