Lil Durk has been through a legal whirlwind over the past two years, and he's not out of the woods yet. After his acquittal in his murder-for-hire case, he and his three codefendants in this sprawling case will face their VICAR trial together, as reported by XXL.
This upcoming legal battle will center on racketeering-related allegations that claim Durk carried out organized criminal activity. The three codefendants in question are Asa Houston, Deandre "OTF Dede" Wilson, and David "Browneyez" Lindsey. Houston got a trial severance, which means he's still awaiting trial for the muder-for-hire charges. Meanwhile, Wilson and Lindsey received convictions in the recent murder-for-hire case, specifically on stalking charges. They are also appealing the stalking convictions.
They will all face trial together, according to reported court documents filed on Wednesday (September 30). "Due to the nature of the prosecution and the number of defendants, including the charges in the indictment and the voluminous discovery, this case is so unusual and so complex that it is unreasonable to expect adequate preparation for pretrial proceedings or for the trial itself within the Speedy Trial Act time limits," the ruling reportedly reads.
However, another question that surged as a result of this relates to rumors that The Voice may be taking a plea deal. Journalist Michael Blackshire was quick to dispel this assumption on Twitter, tweeting earlier today (Friday, October 2) to dismiss this speculation.
"There is zero evidence that Lil Durk is going to take a plea deal," he wrote. "Nothing in the last motion of the trial delay insinuated anything regarding a plea deal. If anything, Lil Durk’s team is banking on receiving a bond. We will find out next month."
When Is Lil Durk's Trial?
For those unaware, Lil Durk's VICAR trial is set to begin on August 30, 2027. A bond hearing for him will take place on November 4, and some folks expect him to walk free or avoid the trial altogether.
All in all, it's been a long road for the Chicago rapper and his codefendants. We will soon find out exactly how things will play out ahead of the scheduled VICAR trial.
