Tennessee sticks together, as evidenced by the bond between two legendary artists from the state: the late Dolly Parton and Three 6 Mafia. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! hosted by Nashville native Jelly Roll, Juicy J and Project Pat reflected on a letter Parton sent the group after beating her at the 2006 Oscars.
Dolly and Three 6 were both up for Best Original Song; the former for "Travelin’ Thru" from Transamerica and the latter for "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" from Hustle & Flow. The Memphis legends became the first hip-hop group to win an Academy Award (and to perform at the event). The country icon cheered for them in the award ceremony's crowd.
During the Jimmy Kimmel Live! segment, Jelly brought up Parton's passing and they all paid tribute to her, with Roll showing a clip of the Oscars moment. "My favorite part of that clip is that the only person who was almost as excited as y'all were was Dolly Parton," he remarked.
Then, the country artist asked the rap duo if they ever heard from Dolly afterwards. That's when Juicy shared the story of how Parton congratulated them via a sweet personal letter.
"We didn’t hear from her 'til, like, a week later," he shared. "She sent us a letter. And she signed it and said, 'Congratulations' and 'I’m glad somebody from Tennessee won the Oscar.'" "Amazing," Pat added.
J also revealed he was able to meet Dolly before Three 6 went onstage. The music world is in mourning right now, but stories like these help lighten the way... Much like Dolly Parton helped so many on their paths.

Other tributes to Dolly Parton include a tender message from Beyoncé. "I’m honored that I had the privilege to work with you," she wrote. "Thank you for your profound impact on the world. You are an angel who has made this world a happier place because of your joyful art. You are truly one of one. Rest peacefully."
Eminem also had kind words for the legend. He revealed she congratulated him on his Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction via a special note.
