We're late, but here's our new edition of Top Tracks. Jeezy scores his first solo #1 in years with a freestyle over DaBaby's "Suge."
Is DaBaby's "Suge" going to be the hot song to freestyle over this summer? The song dropped all the way back on March 1 as part of DaBaby's album Baby On Baby, and like the album itself (which rose to a new peak of #14 on Billboard's album chart in its 10th week of eligibility last week), it's only continued to increase in popularity. Last week "Suge" rose to #22 on the Hot 100, and its producer, Jetsonmade, was interviewed about the song by Genius. Other rappers have taken notice, with both Jeezy and Bow Wow recently delivering freestyles over the ascendant hit. This week, the former's take on DaBaby's track is our #1 song.
Quavo and Machine Gun Kelly lead all artists with two appearances apiece inside of our top ten this week. New songs barely missing out on spots include DJ Khaled, Nipsey Hussle, and John Legend's "Higher" (#11), Akon and Anuel AA's "Get Money" (#12), DJ Khaled, 21 Savage, and Cardi B's "Wish Wish" (#13), and Mozzy's "Legal Guardian/Guardian Angel" (#14).
On his newly-crowned #1 album, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Logic enlists several high-profile guests, though perhaps none more so than actor/former rapper Will Smith. "Don't Be Afraid to Be Different," which features Smith, debuts at #10.
Former frequent Young Thug collaborator London On Da Track's recently been making moves as a solo artist, and his latest features the unlikely cocktail of G-Eazy, City Girls, and Juvenile. "Throw Fits" debuts at #9.
Lat Friday, Tyler The Creator unveiled his latest album, Igor, in slightly mysterious fashion. In addition to no singles being shared beforehand, the features are also uncredited in the track titles. Some, like Kanye's turn on "Puppet," are quite obvious though. This one debuts at #8.
Since his beef with Eminem last year, Machine Gun Kelly's stayed in the news thanks to his role in Netflix's Motley Crüe documentary The Dirt, as well as a steady stream of new music. One of his latest offerings certainly qualifies as eye-catching, as it's a cover of a song by ascendant pop star Billie Eilish. MGK's version of "Ocean Eyes" debuts at #7.
Last week's #1 is only one of two repeats on this week's list. DJ Mustard's star studded new single "100 Bands," which brings together YG, 21 Savage, Quavo, and Meek Mill, debuts at #6.
For her upcoming album Madame X, Madonna has chosen to collaborate with some of the hottest names in hip hop. Following a collab with Swae Lee, she recently shared one featuring Quavo entitled "Future." This isn't the first time the two have linked up, as Madonna appeared on the song "Champagne Rosé" on Quavo's album Huncho last year. This one debuts at #5.
Who's dropping new music on Livemixtapes in 2019? Bow Wow's dropping new music on Livemixtapes in 2019. His latest is a freestyle over Lauryn Hill's "Lost Ones" entitled "Fuck That Bitch." It debuts at #4.
In a rather unlikely success story, Jim Jones and Cam'ron's recent collaboration has now spent four straight weeks inside of our top ten. In its fourth week out, it's down one place from #2 to #2.
Accompanying MGK's Billie Eilish cover was "Hollwood Whore," a single from his upcoming album, Hotel Diablo. Exploring the dark side of the "sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll" cliché, according to Machine Gun himself, it seems likely that this one was inspired by hanging out with Motley Crüe. "Hollywood Whore" debuts at #2.
Jeezy's take on DaBaby's Suge Knight-referencing single may be short (only 1:08 in length), but people were clearly clamoring to hear his new bars. In its first week out, his "Suge" freestyle debuts at #1.
