The U.N. Human Rights Council has been critical of the Trump administration. Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, the UN's most senior human rights official condemned the US for separating children from their parents at the US-Mexico border. On Tuesday, the administration announced the withdrawal of the United States' presence from the Geneva-based council, calling it "hypocritical". The U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, even called it a "cesspool of political bias." The withdrawals come directly after the council's critique mentioned above. It seems like the American government insists on continuing the practice of splitting families apart. The practice includes detaining and holding children in cages.
