Selena Gomez has been relatively quiet this last year. Although she hasn't bombarded the world with new music, she has been hard at work. Gomez serves as an executive producer for the polarizing Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, and she also voiced the character Mavis, in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. The latter opened at number one at the box-office this Summer, beating Dwayne Johnson's Skyscraper for the coveted position.
Gomez recently sat down with Elle, and broke her silence on a number of topics, including her healing process after her public split with The Weeknd and Justin Beiber. Gomez claims she spoke with some, “amazing women who were very close in my life. It was kind of a rough moment. And I just had all of them there, encouraging me, and it was one of those moments that you imagine when you’re a young girl and you go talk to your aunts and your mom and you’re like, 'This is what’s going on in my life.'”
She also crafts song lyrics during her interview that hint at her inner turmoil after her recent breakups. She sings about taking “1,460 days” to get over a man, and “cleaning my slate.” The hook of her emotional song sounds something like, “I’m drunk and I might as well tell you, Get you ooh ooh ooh out of my head now.” She also plays a second song where she questions her own emotions. “Were my ambitions too high?” she sings. “Baby, you’re so distant. Why don’t you recognize I’m so rare?”
Gomez also revealed that she has been living a low-profile life as of late. She sold her Calabasas mansion for $3.3 million to French Montana, she put her Studio City home on the market for $2.8 million, and she also placed her Texas Mansion on the market for $3 million as well. Gomez has since moved to Orange County with a church friend. “It’s been such a release. L.A.’s just gotten really claustrophobic for me. I can’t do any of the things I do here in L.A. It’s just impossible,” she told Elle.
Gomez has also invested her time, five days a week to be exact, to help others in need. The former Disney star has been volunteering at A21, a worldwide anti–human-trafficking nonprofit organization. “The idea of human trafficking to me is…I’m flabbergasted," she stated.
