The Louisiana native has been cooking up new music in the studio.
Kevin Gates took to his Instagram in the early hours to preview new music over a series of posts, all captioned with the hashtag “#imhim.” He’s been in the studio with the Grammy-nominated audio engineer John Wms-Kohlmeyer and the Chicago-based rapper/audio engineer, DAM Primo.
Gates didn’t share any track titles or release dates but did drop some new verses “I’ve been working on my own. Tryin’ to forgive.” He raps in the first clip. “I’m built like that for real. Been like that for years. Rumours in my ear. Right between ears. They say they want me dead, I pretend like I don’t hear,” he raps.
The Baton Rouge native served nine months of a 30-month sentence for felony possession of a firearm. He released the By Any Means 2 mixtape while in prison, and he’s been busy at work since his release. He dropped his Chained to the City, EP, which was well-received by fans and critics. He’s also been receiving mad love; most notably from Meek Mill, who has been making press rounds since being released from a recent prison stint.
Kevin Gates is scheduled to perform at select festivals this summer.
