While we didn't get any surprise releases, the TIDAL launch was not without its curveballs. They came out early as well, when the owner of the company was announced not just as Jay Z, but a huge collection of well known musicians from all different genres.
Kanye, Beyoncé, Daft Punk, Jack White, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Rihanna, Usher, Alicia Keys, J. Cole, and Win and Regine from Arcade Fire were among the many announced, and after arranging themselves in a line across the stage, the musicians each signed a contract with the company.
They then awkwardly stood around the stage while Radiohead's "National Anthem" played, and slowly marched out of the venue to the sounds of the song's chaotic horn outro.
As of now the streaming service has re-launched under its new ownership. A lossless subscription is $19.99, while a standard 320kbps plan is available for the more reasonable price of $9.99.
