Reports are surfacing online suggesting that Jennifer Lopez will be performing a tribute to Motown Records in light of the label's 60th anniversary during the upcoming Grammy Awards on Sunday. Motown was founded by Berry Gordy Jr. in 1959 and was/is home to some of the most legendary and prolific Black artists such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes and more.
Online outrage has sparked since Jennifer has been asked to perform a tribute when there are so many qualified Black artists who can pay homage to the Black-founded label, especially considering it's Black History Month.
Jennifer or the Academy has yet to respond to the rumours, but the amount of reactions online must have them thinking carefully about their next move.
"Black History Month is in shambles right now. We should be celebrating our culture, but instead, we’re entertaining BS. And now Jennifer Lopez doing a MOTOWN Tribute?," a Twitter user wrote, while another added: "Jennifer Lopez and Motown shouldn’t even be in the same sentence. I’m pissed off I even read it."
