James Cameron tips his hat.

Few can deny that James Cameron has come to master the art of the blockbuster. A true Hollywood titan, Cameron's various films have shared a common thread of visual grandiosity, from Terminator to Aliens to Titanic to Avatar. Not only has his work consistently found critical acclaim, but monumental box office success. So much so that Titanic went on to hold the record as one of the highest grossing films worldwide for a staggering twenty-two years. Now, the 11-time Oscar winner has officially been dethroned by Avengers: Endgame

Competitive though he may be, Cameron's sportsmanship was ultimately put on full display. The beloved director recently penned a congratulatory letter to Kevin Feig and his team at Marvel Studios:

To Kevin and Everybody at Marvel,

An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took The Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever!

Jim Cameron

Though it's always possible that he's seething on the inside, you've gotta admire the class act. After all, how can you not respect what Endgame has accomplished, having racked up $2.187 billion dollars in a mere two weeks? One has to wonder if and when it will surpass Cameron's Avatar, though if it does, perhaps the next chapter of Cameron's own Avatar series will have a chance at toppling the newfound king.
