The Tampa Bay Rays have traded longtime third baseman Evan Longoria to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for top infield prospect Christian Arroyo and minor league pitchers Matt Krook and Stephen Woods, according to ESPN. Additionally, the Rays must take on the last year of outfielder Denard Span's contract, who is due $9 million next season.
Longoria has five years remaining on his six-year, $100 million contract, which includes a seventh year option. The 32-year old third baseman has spent his entire 10-year career with the Rays, which included a World Series appearance in 2008. He now joins a Giants team that lost 98 games last season.
During his 10 seasons, Longoria was named to three All-Star teams and earned three Gold Glove Awards, including one in 2017. He was also named Rookie of the Year in 2008.
"Evan is our greatest Ray. For a decade, he's been at the center of all of our successes, and it's a very emotional parting for us all," Rays owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement. "I speak for our entire organization in wishing Evan and his wonderful family our absolute best."
Last season, Longoria hit .261 with 20 homers and 86 RBIs.
