Fans of classic Nintendo fare rejoice, the company has recently announced that it will be developing a version of Mario Kart for smartphones; exciting, right? In a tweet shared yesterday, Nintendo wrote "The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour!"

The tweet also states how the game will be available next March, which means you will have to wait shortly over a year in order to download the game and enjoy all of its wonders.

Nintendo has notoriously rejected the notion that their classic video games will be adapted to the smartphone medium, leaving fans of Donkey Kong and Mario Kart a little disappointed. However, in December, the Wall Street Journal reported that the company was looking to expand its repertoire and align themselves with more mobile gaming developers.

Just last year, Nintendo had plans to release five video games on the smartphone platform. The company only got around to deliver four titles instead of five, which included Animal Crossing: Pocket CampFire Emblem HeroesSuper Mario Run, and the now defunct Miitomo.

The addition of Mario Kart, and a rumoured mobile adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, is sure to get gamers thrilled about Nintendo's upcoming plans.
