After turning himself into police custody in 2022, rapper Mozzy has been released from federal prison after serving ten months. The artist served his sentence at USP Atwater in Atwater, California, and was initially sentenced to a year. The conviction was related to his January 2021 arrest for gun possession. While the rapper has been serving his sentence, he has continued to release new music, including the six-track Kollect Kall EP. With a long career spanning over a decade, the artist’s legal troubles have not hindered the success of his career. Here's everything you need to know about CMG artist Mozzy.

Early Life & Music Beginnings

Mozzy, whose real name is Timothy Patterson, is a rapper from Sacramento, California. He grew up in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood. In childhood, he was raised by his grandmother, a member of the Black Panther Party. Mozzy started his music career at 11 under Lil' Tim and has since released numerous mixtapes and albums, including 1 Up Top Ahk and Gangland Landlord. Mozzy has collaborated with many well-known artists, including YG, Yo Gotti, and Kendrick Lamar. He has also been praised for his storytelling and ability to paint a vivid picture of life in the streets in his music.

Mixtapes & Albums

Known for his gritty street tales and unique flow, Mozzy’s mixtapes and albums have been praised by critics for their lyrical content and production quality. The rapper’s 2015 mixtape, Bladadah, is one of his most successful projects. This mixtape led to the rapper being recognized by Complex magazine for having the "best run of 2015.” Rolling Stone also recognized it as the 22nd-best rap album of 2015. Mozzy also released ten other mixtapes between 2011 and 2016. His  2016 mixtape Mandatory Check reached No. 7 on the Billboard Rap Albums chart.

So far, Mozzy has shared six studio albums, the latest being Survivor’s Guilt, released in July 2022. The album peaked at No. 40 on the US Billboard 200, and No. 23 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums. Mozzy’s best-performing album was 2021’s Untreated Trauma. The album peaked at No. 19 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 10 on the Billboard Top R&B/ Hip Hop Albums chart. The rapper also released collaborative albums, like 2021’s Kommunity Service with YG. Mozzy has also released compilation albums with Blac Youngsta, Gunplay, and Stevie Joe. In February 2022, Mozzy signed a major-label contract with Yo- Gotti's CMG. The deal came as a joint venture between CMG and Interscope Records.

Though the rapper is now a free man, his latest sentence is not the first he has faced during his career. Between 2005 and 2008, Mozzy was arrested three times by the Sacramento Police for various crimes, including illegal possession of a firearm and evading police. In 2014, he was reportedly arrested in Sacramento due to a long-term investigation by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. The department was investigating Mozzy’s involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. After the arrest, Mozzy faced multiple felony charges, including possessing a firearm by a felon. This resulted in the rapper being unable to leave California until 2017 due to being on probation.

In 2021, Mozzy was arrested for gun possession by a convicted felon following a traffic stop in Culver City, California. While driving, the rapper was pulled over for traffic violations. According to authorities, the smell of marijuana upon approaching the vehicle prompted them to search the rapper's car. Upon searching his vehicle, the arresting officer allegedly found a Glock Model 26 Gen 4, 9mm caliber pistol. The officer also found 16 rounds of Speer 9mm Luger caliber ammunition and a personal amount of weed. Mozzy would be released after posting a $35,000 bond. In July 2022, the rapper would turn himself into police custody. Initially scheduled to be released on July 23, 2023, the rapper was released after serving ten months.

What’s Next For Mozzy

“Life comes at you fast. Sometimes shit gets real [and] you gotta take that deal," said Mozzy in a statement to the press before beginning his sentence. "It’ll get slimy out here. Appreciate my loved ones. Chin up, chest out. Love you the most.”

Now that Mozzy is free again, he has much to look forward to in his career. With the sentence coming off the heels of Mozzy signing with Yo Gotti's CMG, the artist is ready to drop more hits with his label mates. Fans still appreciate the 15-song album, Survivor's Guilt, which featured guest appearances from Gotti. The album also featured appearances from 42 Dugg, Roddy Ricch, YG, and EST Gee. Mozzy recently released the follow to Survivor's Guilt, titled Kollect Kall, earlier this year as well.
