Martin Lawrence began his comedy career with stand-up shows in Washington DC. However, he would get his first on-screen role in the third season of What's Happening Now!! after executives saw him on Star Search. The late 80s and early 90s saw Lawrence take on small comedic roles in a variety of films. That would eventually lead to his true breakout in the mid-1990s. Lawrence hosted Def Jam Comedy and starred in his own sitcom, Martin.
Martin continued to shine in bigger and bigger roles, starring in Bad Boys (1995) and Big Momma's House (2000). Lawerence's career perfectly balanced comedy and drama, as he never allowed himself to be too heavily type-cast. He also undertook a number of stand-up specials, showing he still had the comedic skills that had gotten him his start. Lawrence's latest role was in the 2022 thriller Mindcage. Furthermore, he will likely reunite with Will Smith in Bad Boys 4. Now Lawrence is about to have his name immortalized in Hollywood.
Lawrence Receives Hollywood Star
In a ceremony on April 20, Martin Lawrence was officially enshrined on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lawerence received the 2753rd star on the Walk and will have the address 6617 Hollywood Boulevard. Lawrence's star shares the 6617 address with Wallace Reid and Billie Burke. Steve Harvey, Tracy Morgan, and Lynn Whitfield served as the stars inducting Lawrence. Harvey received his star in 2013, while Morgan was enshrined in 2018. Whitfield co-starred alongside Lawrence in 1996's A Thin Line Between Love And Hate.
At the ceremony, Lawrence made several remarks directed toward aspiring performances. “If I can pass one thing on to those coming after me, it would be to board your dream bus with confidence, grace, and humility—and ride it till the wheels off,” he said. “Let the doubters runteldat.” Lawrence also thanked his family, especially his late mother. “As I stand here very gracious and humble, I would like to give honor to my mom whose continual guidance from above has molded me into the man I am today,” he said. “She instilled the importance of being true to myself and by doing that I have been able to bring laughter to so many.”
