Seattle's Dave B is a singing rapper, though he's a whole different breed than most who get tagged with that categorization. Operating with zero auto-tune, his soulful vocals contain contain hints of funk and the blues, and he's able to relay a wide range of emotions, none of them drug-induced. Even so, he has the flow and lyricism of a classically-trained emcee. For his latest single, "Got It From," Dave B has connected with Soulection producer Sango, who was also raised in Seattle.
"Got It From" is a smoothly inspirational ode to a woman who's been tugging on Dave B's heartstrings. Sango's production is beautifully delicate, and it feels like it should be played in a botanical garden. Apparently the two of them cooked up a whole bunch of collabs in Dave's home studio, so look for them to share more exciting Seattle sounds in the near future.
