What Did It Do

Kur proves he's one of Philly's most promising voices on this highlight from his "180" mixtape.

With Lil Uzi Vert emerging as one of rap's biggest breakouts and Meek Mill continuing to release uncompromising street rap, Philly hip-hop is in a good place. Just beneath the surface of mainstream recognition is Kur, a rapper who's been building buzz in his city, and stands to catch more ears with the release of his excellent 180 mixtape. Maaly Raw, a fellow Philly native who's done a lot of work with Uzi, including the platinum "Money Longer," contributes across the project (made clear from his many drops). "What Did It Do," is one of the strongest collabs between Kur and Maaly, a melancholic record that highlights the emotional urgency of Kur's rhymes as much as it does his thrilling technical skill. It feels like the title track of the collection as Kur announces "Did a 180 now I'm poppin'."

Quotable Lyrics:
Now I'm on the highway floatin'
In the Benz, used to use tokens
On my grind, gotta stay focused
When I cried, I ain't have a shoulder
Was alone, but it made me stronger
I got lazy, gettin' back my hunger
