Continuing his #BrownHistory29 interview series, which seeks to touch on one relevant topic each day throughout Black Brown History Month, Metta World Peace sat down with Drea Avent to discuss the controversy surrounding the Academy Awards and the lack of diversity in this year's class of nominees.
In Metta's opinion, he feels that -- instead of boycotting the Oscars, as stars like Jada Pinkett Smith have pledged to do -- minority actors and celebrities should team up to start their own award show. He also believes racism within the Academy should be dealt with, if it indeed exists, but Metta thinks the solution is not to boycott the existing award show, but, rather, to create a better one that's more in touch with a diverse audience.
