The nominees for the 2017 Grammy Awards were revealed on Tuesday (Dec. 6), and Beyonce led all artists with a total of 9 nominations, followed closely by Drake, Rihanna, and Kanye West, whom each received eight nominations. Though Bey should be pleased with her prospects of taking home an armful of trophies on Feb. 12, the date of "Music's Biggest Night," it has been reported that she was rejected for consideration for certain awards -- those in the country categories.
With Lemonade and its songs, Beyonce was able to pick up Grammy nominations across a few different genre categories, including Pop, Rap/Sung ("Formation"), and Urban Contemporary. She had, however, submitted the song "Daddy Lessons" to be nominated for a country award, including Best Country Song or Best Country Solo Performance. The song was rejected by the Recording Academy's country music committee, reports the Associated Press.
Beyonce made headlines for performing "Daddy Lessons" with the Dixie Chicks at last month's Country Music Awards. It was reported that the CMA removed a promotional clip for the performance as well as social media posts about Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks due to racist backlash. Some commenters had reacted negatively to Beyonce's "Black Lives Matter" support as well as perceived anti-police sentiment in her music and videos.
