Last week, Chance The Rapper, Big Sean, Future, and Mike Will Made It all found themselves victims of unauthorized leaks, and subsequently spoke out about the all-too-common occurrence in the music industry. Mike Will, in the midst of a lengthy rant, wrote that leakers were "wasting songs and/or people's time by having them listening to something that was never created to be heard," insinuating elsewhere that the two Future songs that had found their way online earlier that day were not in their completed form. While "Paparazzi" and "Guap On Me" still had some worthwhile aspects to them (especially the latter), it was true that they didn't sound finished, whether it be a lack of verses on the former or some dead air over the latter's instrumental. Those two tracks, as well as Chance and Big Sean's collab, all made it into our top ten this week, but there's definite potential for them to get even better once completed.
Mike Will, Future, Big Sean, and Kendrick Lamar are the winners of this week's most appearances title, with two spots apiece. New tracks narrowly missing out on spots include Joe Budden's fourth Drake diss, "Just Because" (#11), DJ Drama's Lil Wayne-assisted intro to Quality Street Music 2 (#12), Lil Durk and Future's "Hated On Me" (#13), and Fabolous' remix of A Boogie Wit da Hoodie's "My Shit" (#14).
10. PartyNextDoor - Not Nice
Last week, PND shared the first deatail on his upcoming project P3, and along with that artwork and release date, dropped off a new song from the forthcoming album. "Not Nice" fits in perfectly with 2016's ongoing dancehall craze, and shows that Party might be the guy who can pull it off best (after all, he did write a good deal of Rihanna's "Work"). "Not Nice" debuts at #10.
9. Schoolboy Q Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock & Ab-Soul - THat Part (Remix)
These days, it's rare for anything to stay on our top ten chart for more than two weeks, but then again, it's even rarer for us to get a fresh Black Hippy cut (although it has since been removed from Soundcloud). The posse remix to Q's "THat Part" went from #3 to #1 last week, and now, in its third week out, it finally looking like it's on the downswing and lands at #9.
8. Gucci Mane Feat. Kanye West - Pussy Print (Prob. By Mike Will Made It)
Gucci Mane went all in on Everybody Looking's features, getting three of the biggest names currently in hip hop (Drake, Young Thug, and Kanye West) to drop the only non-Wop verses on the album. "Pussy Print" is arguably the strongest of the three, and it completely reverses any skepticism you might have about two guys from such different backgrounds collaborating. It makes its debut at #8.
7. Future - Paparazzi (Prod. By Mike Will Made It)
The first of two Future leaks last week was unquestionably the weaker of the two, as Future himself said it was just a reference track that he never intended to release. There's clear potential, especially in Mike Will's walloping beat, but this was definitely best left on the cutting room floor. "Paparazzi" debuts at #7.
6. DJ Khaled Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean & Betty Wright - "Holy Key" (Prod. By Cool & Dre)
This Friday, DJ Khaled will release his post-Snapchat career revitalization album, Major Key, and little over a week before that, he shared the third track we've heard from it thus far, "Holy Key." Marking the first time Kendrick and Sean Don appeared on the same track since "Control," this was another huge one for Khaled. "Holy Key" debuts at #6.
5. Joe Budden - Afraid (Drake Diss)
Will Joe Budden ever stop making Drake diss tracks? If they keep doing numbers like this, probably not. "Afraid" is the third of four that have been released since late June (the most recent of which dropped on Friday), and although he's already exhausted a couple thousand words on The Boy, Budden clearly still has more to say. "Afraid" dropped last Saturday and didn't make last week's top ten, so it's up 35 places to land at #5.
4. Future - Guap On Me
I'm sorry Mike Will and Future, but this shit is too hard to not be in our lives. "Guap On Me" is my pick for Future song of the year thus far, with its spacey beat and keyed-in delivery lending it the same kind of undeniable intrigue as "News Or Sumthn" and "Codeine Crazy." It debuts at #4.
3. Chance The Rapper Feat. Big Sean, Jeremih & Smino - Living Single
After this leaked, Big Sean wrote on Twitter that this track was actually intended for his upcoming album, but for some reason, whoever leaked "Living Single" labeled Chance as the lead artist. Either way, this track is fire, a funky slice of relationship rap that perfectly fits the styles of all parties involved. I hope this one still makes it onto Sean's album. "Living Single" debuts at #3.
2. Desiigner - Tiimmy Turner
Love it or hate it, Desiigner's "Tiimmy Turner" arrived with a wave of hype unmatched by anything else that dropped last week. It's already got over three million views on YouTube, and it's not even a week old. Desiigner just released the lackluster New English, but look for this track to breathe new life into whatever he's working on next. "Tiimmy Turner" debuts at #2.
1. French Montana Feat. Drake - No Shopping
After years of delays, French Montana's MC4 (formerly Mac & Cheese 4) is finally set to arrive on August 19th-- you can pre-order it on iTunes, so you know it's real. Among the 14 tracks to be featured on there is the Drake-assisted, Murda Beatz-produced "No Shopping," a track that may or may not contain retorts to Joe Budden's repeated Drizzy disses. This one dropped last Saturday on OVO Sound Radio, but made it all the way up to #6 on last week's chart. In its second week out, it rises five spots to #1.
