Snoop Dogg Criticizes "Roots" Reboot: "I Don't Understand America"

"They just wanna just keep showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago."

The History Channel has chosen to revive the 1977 miniseries Roots, airing its the first episode tonight, but despite his friend and collaborator, T.I. scoring a role on the show, Snoop Dogg will not be tuning in. Taking to Instagram today, Snoop criticized Roots, as well as other recent projects like 12 Years A Slave. 

"No disrespect, but I can't watch no motherfucking more black movies where n*ggas get dogged down..." he said of the series and otehrs that take place in the time of slabvery. "I don't understand America, they just wanna keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago, but guess what? We're taking the same abuse. Think about that part. When are y'all gonna make a motherfucking series about the success that black folks is having?"

"Fuck y'all I ain't watching that shit," he continued. "Let's create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today."
