The "Blurred Lines" lawsuit was a rollercoaster of emotions; from the half-hilarious, half-disconcerting batshit crazy depositions, to the ultimately discouraging verdict, it was a spectacle to say the least.
Turns out, Pharrell and Robin Thicke want to do it all over again, as the two songwriters have filed a "motion for a new trial" this weekend.
Hoping to change the outcome of the first trial, the document states:
The grounds for this motion are that the jury's verdict finding that Counter-Defendants infringed 'Got To Give It Up' and the damages and profits awarded by the jury are unsupported by any evidence, let alone substantial evidence, and are contrary to law; and evidentiary errors and legal errors in the jury instructions were prejudicial and prevented Counter-Defendants from receiving a fair trial.
The influence of the "Blurred Lines" verdict is already being felt throughout the industry, as it was announced earlier today that The Gap Band were added as songwriters to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk".
We'll have to wait and see if the motion is granted, until then, songwriting credits will continue to be handed out to anyone who asks angrily enough.
