20 Lyrical References To Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj's third album, The Pinkprint, dropped a few weeks back, so we thought we'd go ahead and compile the best rap references to the female beast. And damn were there a lot. Dropping Nicki Minaj's name in a song seems to be a thing. Of course, not all of the references were about Nicki specifically. A lot of them were about her butt or wanting to have a "menage" with Nicki Minaj (that one may be a tad overused). But there were a few clever, meaningful references that stood out, which we've highlighted for you here today. If we had to guess, there's probably no other female rapper who's name dropped so often in hip-hop, which is pretty cool if you think about it.

"Miss Me" by Drake ft. Lil Wayne off Thank Me Later

“I love Nicki Minaj, I told her I’d admit it / I hope one day we get married just to say we fuckin’ did it / And girl I’m fuckin’ serious I’m with it if you with it / Cause your verses turn me on and your pants are mighty fitted / Ugh, damn, I think you caught me in a moment”

Remember when Drake admitted he had a crush on Nicki back in 2010? Yeah, well here's more proof of that. 

“Upgrade U” by Lil Wayne off Da Drought 3

“We are Young Money bitch and I am the leader / We are Curren$y, Mack Maine, and D-Raw / and I just signed a chick named Nicki Minaj”

It's crazy to think that just seven years ago, Nicki was just "a chick named Nicki Minaj."

"Black Friday" by Lil Kim 

This is the ultimate Nicki Minaj slam. Lil' Kim's freestyle is over three minutes long and the song includes snippets of Nicki Minaj interviews. This is not a subtle diss song--it's the ultimate diss song. Lil Kim's bars are wonderfully vicious and vengeful and she thoroughly pulverizes Nicki throughout the song. She sure loves to start beef. 

“Martians vs. Goblins” by Game ft. Tyler the Creator off The R.E.D. Album

“My team is running shit like we have full-cleat Adidas / Getting chased by the polices on a full bred Cheetah / Bishop Eddie caught me tryna escape / bag full of drag and a Nicki Minaj mixtape”

This song might be hinting that Tyler the Creator occassionally dresses in drag (and still own CDs), but then again, this is also the same song in which Tyler claims he's a martian (and Game is a goblin). Most likely, this is a play on words, at least in terms of the Nicki Minaj reference. Nicki is known for having a number of alter egos—apparently there are 14 in total, but nine of them are retired. Well, maybe Tyler's hinting at having some (dress wearing) alter egos, too. 

“Chiraq (Remix)” by Lil Durk ft. Lil Herb

“I don’t love no bitches but my mom, my sister, and my gun and Nicki Minaj”

Aw, ain't that sweet. Nicki put Lil Herb on her remix of "Chiraq" and he's thanking her in this version of the song.

“Fuck Yo Feelings” by Game ft. Chris Brown and Lil Wayne off Blood Moon: Year Of The Wolf

“Yo, bitch, I signed my section point, I’m with them niggas (Yeah) / Is that Drizzy bitch? (Yeah) I’m with Nicki like (Yeah)”

Game’s giving a shoutout to Young Money Entertainment here, so is he hinting that he's finally signed with them? Then again, this is just a song...

“Let It Go” by A$AP Ferg off Trap Lord

“Two bitches in the crib, no drawers / She rockin’ the mic with her jaws / I call that bitch Nicki Minaj / She pop more pills, no cough”

This is from the first song off of A$AP Ferg's first official mixtape. It's not that hard to figure out. Ferg has two girls over, hence the implied menage reference. At the time that he was recording this song, Nicki's song "Pills 'n' Potions" had just come out, hence the pills reference. 

“Good Girls Go Bad” by Game ft. Drake off The R.E.D. Album

“This is for all the lost girls locked up in the pen / All the girls that hold it down, getting beat on by they man / Respect women, I don’t care if they are 2 or a 10 / We don’t beat on Kat Stacks, we just bring it to an end / And we don’t wanna see Nicki fighting Lil' Kim / There’s missing women out there, we should focus on ‘em”

True that, Game: nobody wants to see two of hip-hop's most talented female rappers fight one another, and all the other stuff he mentioned.

“Ice Cream Truck” by Dom Kennedy off From The Westside With Love II

“I like that you ain't got a pic of you on your blog / iPod on while you walking the dog / Playing Salt 'N' Pepa, TLC, Nicki Minaj”

The girl that Dom Kennedy is crushing on sounds like a pretty cool chick with a deep appreciation for early hip-hop and female artists. 

"Tuscan Leather" by Drake off Nothing Was The Same

“Not even talkin’ to Nicki, communication is breakin’ / I dropped the ball on some personal shit, I need to embrace it”

Oh, poor Drake. He's going through such tough times that he's not even talking to bae. And to think: they almost once got fake married.

“Pretty Bitch” by Lil B off 6 Kiss

“Nicki Minaj, I’m the finest bitch out, you feel me?”

Lil' B wants you to know that he's a pretty bitch. Prettier than Nicki Minaj type pretty. Got that?

“Throw It Up” by Yelawolf ft. Eminem and Gangsta Boo off Radioactive

“So so crazy gotta fucked up temper / bipola’ not Nicki, I'm worser, I’ll hurt ya” 

Nicki has alter egos. I guess that makes her bipolar— and Gangsta Boo, too. 

“Black Lip Bastard (Remix)” by Ab-Soul, ft. Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock off Control System

“Calculate my steps and strategically took my time / Even falling off, I land on the ass of Nicki Minaj (so soft)"

This line is more about Kendrick Lamar than Nicki, but it's still a pretty clever reference of her big booty.

“Latch (Remix)” by Schoolboy Q ft. Disclosure and Sam Smith

“This little Nicki grew up to be monster / You deserve to be mama / Twinkle twinkle, her sparkle’ll blind ya / You and me is a must, girl"

It seems like everyone in the Black Hippy crew has a thang for Nicki. It's nice to see a reference to her that isn't just about her butt. 

“Trap God Trap God” Gucci Mane off World War 3, Vol. 3: Gas

“Bitch I'm in love with Dodge / I got body kits on all my cars / They hips like Nicki Minaj”

Gucci Mane's car sounds pretty damn decked out. It probably has one of those tail fin things, too.

“Lean Wit It" by Meek Mill off Dreamchasers 2

“Ugh, 50 cash in my pocket / Nigga I got your stash in my pocket / I’m blowin money fast in my pocket / I said it’s lookin' like I got Nicki ass in my pocket"

Damn. If Meek Mill's comparing his wallet size to Nicki's booty then he must be rolling in dough.

“Mafia Music II” by Rick Ross off The Timeless Audomars Piguet Collection

“My glock hole bigger than Nicki Minaj camel toe”

Camel toes are natural and to be expected when wearing tight pants!

“Disgusting” by J. Cole

"Like three Nicki Minajs, flow completely retarded / So I’m deeply regarded as one of the gods, and yes / Her ass clap and so that’s a round of applause, I guess."

It doesn't seem like J. Cole appreciates Nicki Minaj's fluctuations in volume and tone or her alter egos or even her ass very much.

“Fast Lane” by Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" off Hell: The Sequel

“Let me tell you what this pretty little dame’s name is cause she’s kinda famous / and I hope that I don’t sound too heinous when I say / Nicki Minaj but I wanna stick my penis in your anus”

Nicki Minaj gave Eminem a verse on her 2010 album, Pink Friday, and now he's in love with her, in a manner of speaking.

“Treasure Island” by Iggy Azalea off Ignorant Art

“10 millions years at the top / My time will start today, Nicki paved the way / Came too far to leave, now I cant stop, uh”

This is Iggy Azalea's subtle thank you and acknowledgement to Nicki Minaj for further paving the way for females in hip-hop. Given that Nicki has only been around a short time (and certainly isn't one of the original women in hip-hop), this is an interesting choice for Iggy.
