Ariana Grande looks to an iconic actor for inspiration.

Jim Carrey has developed into a nuanced and engaging actor, having transformed over the course of a multi-decade cinematic journey. Today, the Canadian legend has become somewhat of a real-life embodiment of the "Tragic Clown" archetype, a testament to the performative nature of celebrity. Having previously battled with depression, Carrey has spoken out about his experiences with eloquence and honesty. "Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore’,” he once stated. “‘I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me.”

Now, Ariana Grande has looked to Carrey for inspiration, as she battles with her own growing sense of depression. Taking to Instagram to share a story, Ari paid homage to Jim Carrey and his wisdom, dubbing him the "Love Of Her Life," or "LOML" in modern-speak. Along with an image of Carrey, Grande highlighted segments of his depression analysis, including the aforementioned quote.

"You should think of the term depressed as 'deep rest'," explains Carrey. "Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you’ve been trying to play.” Given that Grande has been spending the last several years in the spotlight, it's no wonder she's experiencing such deep melancholy. While being one of the world's biggest superstars likely has its benefits, the pitfalls are equally numerous. Hopefully Grande can find the "deep rest" her body needs. Best wishes to her.
