It's the biggest boost in nearly a decade.

Following its unprecedented win for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards, Green Book has been enjoying the fruit of most Oscar-winning outings post-ceremony with the film seeing a gross of $4.7 million over the weekend, making it the biggest post-Oscar boost for a winner in the Best Picture category in eight years.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the last time such success was beat was when The King's Speech earned $6.2 million over the weekend that followed its Best Picture win. Last year it was The Shape of Water that earned the distinction, but that film only drew $2.3 million afterward. Overseas, Green Book also made major gains, adding $31.9 million to its tally.

Such a boost in interest can, in part, be attributed to the mixed responses the film received after its win. Most criticisms for the film cite the fact that it delivers on a one-sided account of the principal role of Dr. Donald Shirley. The film solicited no input from Shirley's family and has been dubbed a "symphony of lies" by those who were close to the late pianist and composer.

Directed by Peter Farrelly, the film notably stars Mahershala Ali, who also took home the prize for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars, a prize he also received for his work in Moonlight, which (in)famously won the Best Picture title that same year.
