This weekend, Blumhouse and Universal's Halloween opened up with an impressive figure of $77.5 million across 3,920 theaters on the domestic front, marking the second-best debut of all time for an R-Rated horror film. It also marked the second-best showing of all time for the month of October, trailing slightly behind the record of $80 million, set by Venom earlier in the month.
Overseas, the film kicked things off with $14.3 million across 23 markets, leading in Mexico with $4.9 million and following behing in the United Kingdom with $3.6 million, bringing its global pull to $91.80 million. The flick is a direct sequel to the 1978 classic horror film of the same name in which the original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis returns in her role as Laurie Strode.
“I am enormously proud of this film,”says Jason Blum. "Halloween brings the franchise back to life in a fresh, relevant and fun way that is winning over fans and critics alike.
The only other R-rated horror film to best Halloween's showing was 2017's It, which earned $123.4 million in its first week, but the film did ultimately reign supreme among Halloween-themed movies opening around the holiday. It also marks the best Blumhouse outing since Paranormal Activity 3 logged $53.8 million.
Among viewers, Halloween has earned a CinemaScore of B+ with males making up 53 percent of ticket buyers while 60 percent of the audience was over the age of 25.
