Louis C.K. was one of the many men to be toppled by the #MeToo movement last year. Just one day after news broke that C.K. engaged in inappropriate behavior with female co-workers, he admitted to The New York Times that the stories were true. His behavior included masturbating in front of women, or just pulling his penis out in general. After apologizing and staying out of the spotlight for almost a year, C.K. made a surprise appearance at the Comedy Cellar in New York.

The Comedy Cellar is legendary, and is also the comedy club that C.K. has been frequenting for a decade. According to The TimesC.K. was met with an ovation the moment he stepped on stage in the sold-out club. The owner of the club, Noam Dworman, claimed that he performed, “typical Louis C.K. stuff." He said that he touched on topics from racism to waitresses’ tips. “It sounded just like he was trying to work out some new material, almost like any time of the last 10 years he would come in at the beginning of a new act.” Dworman said he received a call from one customer who wished he was warned before C.K. got on stage. “He wished he had known in advance, so he could’ve decided whether to have been there or not,” Dworman stated. Several #MeToo supporters took to Twitter to blast the Comedy Cellar for allowing C.K. to perform.

“I understand that some people will be upset with me. I care about my customers very much. Every complaint goes through me like a knife. And I care about doing the right thing," continued Dworman. “There can’t be a permanent life sentence on someone who does something wrong.”
