Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will come face-to-face for the first time on Thursday, September 20 at a UFC 229 press conference at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The UFC has announced that the event will be closed to the public, instead offering fans to watch at a viewing party in Times Square, but McGregor apparently has other plans.
The 29-year old Irish superstar took to twitter last night with a simple message: "The press conference will be open to the public." Furthermore, McGregor tweeted that "the ticket for entry" is a bottle of his recently released "Proper No. Twelve" Irish whiskey. Show up with two bottles of the liquid gold and you'll skip right to the front of the line. McGregor assures his fans, "My soldiers will be outside making sure this rule is strictly adhered to."
McGregor, who will challenge Nurmagomedov for the Lightweight title on October 6, has also vowed to donate $5 for every case sold to local first responder organizations/charities, up to $1 million annually. “First responders all over the world are the unsung heroes who act with courage and answer the call of duty every day for people in need,” McGregor commented. “I have great respect for these men and women.” The organizations and charities will be identified for each state and country around the world and donations will go directly to specific states and countries where sales take place.
It's unclear how the UFC will regulate the hoard of fans showing up at Radio City with bottles of "Proper No. Twelve" in hand, but it should make for an entertaining marketing campaign.
