Fat Joe came through 105.1's The Breakfast Club to kick it with the crew. The interview started off lightly, touching on topics like his upcoming music and his nickname "Joey Crack." Joe also dished about getting white boy wasted and recounts other fun stories. Still, the interview included some more somber content.
The crew spoke about grieving lost ones. Joe opened up about enduring one of the darkest times of his life when his sister, his grandfather and Big Pun died in the same week. During time, he was constantly being reminded of his "twin," Big Pun. Everyone from the waitress at the restaurant to a random driver at a stop light would remind him of his loss. He drank through his grief and ultimately saw a psychiatrist for two years to help him push through. Even though he was "buggin" during that time, the rapper insists he would never consider suicide:
" I literally used to come outside and the sunny day is nighttime. I would go in my bathtub with no water and just stay lookin' at the ceiling all night. [...]If I had to live to 90-years-old like that, I would still enjoy a steak and some rice and beans. Trust me. I'm not killing myself. But I'm just saying, I was really going through it. Now it prepares me for everything."
He explains why he likes to share his newfound wisdom with the young rappers who are coming up. He finds ways to give them the knowledge he could've benefitted from because "I was Tekashi 6ix9ine when I first came in the game. I was 50 Cent when I first came in the game."
