The Wire is one of the best television shows to ever air. The show, which is based in Baltimore, features some of the most in-depth perspectives on life in the hood. The HBO series features multiple characters, multiple storylines, and several plot twists. Former President Barack Obama was a fan of the series, and even stated that Omar was the best character on the show. Omar Little, who was played by Michael Kenneth Williams, is a thief who robs drug dealers. He's a constant problem in the show for characters like Idris Elba's Stringer Bell, and Omar is tied into some of the most important storylines in the series. Sitting down with PeopleTV's "Couch Surfing" series, Williams spoke about getting his foot in the door before playing Omar.
Williams recalls his first film role ever, and admits that the late-great Tupac is the one that found him and put him in his first film. "It was a time in New York when music videos were really a big thing, at least in New York City. The right music video would make you a star,” Williams states. “You would just go around to all these different production offices…and audition. And the way you would audition was, if it wasn’t a dance video, they’d just stand you up against the wall, polaroid you, "Next!," and if they liked your look, you’d get the gig.”
Tupac saw the polaroid of Williams and decided to cast him in the movie Bullet. “He was like, ‘Yo, go find this dude, he looks thugged out enough to play my little brother," recalls Williams. Bullet was released in 1996, and starred Tupac, Mickey Rourke, Donnie Wahlberg, Adrien Brody, Ted Levine, and John Enos III.
