As Kid Cudi ventures off into the music industry on his own, he's been doing interview after interview discussing the direction he plans to take, what exactly he wants to do since leaving G.O.O.D. Music, and especially, why he left in the first place. In a candid interview with Hot 97, Cudder discusses these things, saying that going back to when he first met Kanye West, he knew he would one day need his own lane. Now that, that time has come, he plans to focus solely on the one artist he's signed to his record label, Wicked Awesome-- King Chip. Cudi explains how his focus is just on Chip, as a whole roster of people to take care of can cause quite a few headaches, which he doesn't want to deal with right now.
Cudi explains that he always knew he could be as great as his former G.O.O.D. Music boss and mentor, Kanye West. "When I first met Kanye, I always saw him as my equal, as far as creative skills. I might not have been polished and where I'm at now when I first met him, but I always saw my potential for greatness, I saw I could be as equally great as Kanye," Cudi claimed. "It's always like, our relationship was like the 'mentor' type-thing, but he always knew I had my own vision, my own lane I wanted to run down, and he knew that I was a leader."
Cudder also talks about how Rick Ross' "U.O.E.N.O." line was twisted, as can be the case, but nonetheless, rapper does have a responsibility. "I normally don't like to have opinions about people crafts, and I can't say that I don't like Rick Ross, I like Rick Ross, I think his stuff is dope. But that lyric in particular, man, it's like, come on man, that shit is super sketch, it is a sketchy line, but people can get caught up in the artistry sometimes," Cudi said.
Kid Cudi continued, comparing Rozay's line to some stuff he wrote on Man On The Moon II. "He was just writing fresh-ass raps, he was thinking of some cold lines, but there is a responsibility. I think about MOTM2 and some of the shit I wrote on there, and I'm like, 'man, I really took it there.' I needed to at that point in time, but, damn, would I take it there now, would I try to make shit that edgy? No, 'cause I have a responsibility," Cudi said.
