On August 4th, NFL greats Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Brian Dawkins, Brian Urlacher, Terrell Owens and others will be enshrined at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. However, Owens revealed today that he won't be attending the enshrinement ceremony.
In an official statement, Owens says he'd rather celebrate one of the most memorable days of his life, elsewhere. Prior to releasing the statement today, he informed the Hall of Fame of his intentions.
"While I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity, I have made the decision to publicly decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton," Owens said in a statement released Thursday. "... After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere."
Owens added that he will announce "where and when" he will celebrate his Hall of Fame induction at a later date.
The 44-year old former wide receiver has expressed interest in making an NFL comeback for some time now, and recently floated the idea of rejoining the team that drafted him out of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga way back in 1996.
A third-round draft selection of the San Francisco 49ers in 1996, T.O. ranks eighth all time in receptions (1,078), second in receiving yards (15,934) and third in receiving touchdowns (153). After spending the first eight seasons of his 15-year NFL career in San Fran, Owens moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.
