Amanda Davis, a news anchor for Atlanta's WGCL-TV, has passed away after suffering a massive stroke at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday. Davis was pronounced dead around 9:30PM, and was about to board a flight to San Antonio following the death of her step-father.
WGCL-TV revealed that their former employee passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones, and also stated that during this time of grief, Davis' family is "asking for privacy at this difficult time."
Davis had a long and prosperous career as an Atlanta news anchor for 25 years, becoming a familiar face on WGCL-TV's morning news and noon show. Prior to this, Davis reported for WAGA-TV, an affiliate of Atlanta's Fox station.
In 2016, Davis spoke with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, detailing her struggles with alcoholism which lead to a subsequent DUI arrest. Davis sought to use her platform as a public figure to inspire others who are battling similar demons.
Atlanta's current mayor, Kasim Reed, recently tweeted out his condolences to her family members in lieu of the tragic news, as well as the loss of one of Atlanta's most recognizable television figures.
