It hasn’t been the easiest year for Kanye West, but reversing the damage of the past few years seems to be working to a certain degree. Ye’s been on a global tour, selling out stadiums in America and internationally, despite the immense scrutiny he’s faced along the way. His anti-semitic comments have stained his legacy to a degree but not enough to prevent him from receiving major honors from some of the states he visited.
Most recently, Ye performed in Texas, and the state made sure to give him his flowers while he was in Houston. State Representative Ron Reynolds presented Ye with the Global Icon Award and revealed that they flew a special flag over the Texas State Capitol in honor of the Chicago artist.
“This flag was flown over our Capitol in Austin for none other than Kanye West. We’re so honored to have him in H-Town where we’re showing him mad love and respect,” he said.
Kanye West's Houston Concert
The Houston concert turned out to be one of the more significant outings in his global tour. Performing at the Reliant Stadium, Ye brought out 80,210 fans, marking the highest attendance at a hip-hop show in the U.S. This now beats the record he previously set earlier this year after selling 74,000 tickets during each night of his two-night run at SoFi Stadium.
What’s more interesting is that Ye also had a few unexpected guests in the crowd, too. Travis Scott was spotted alongside Drake, who famously feuded with Kanye West several years ago and maintained a strange relationship with him since. Ye gave Drake a shout-out on stage, and that alone seems like a promising sign that they could be working on music together in the future. Whether that’s the case has yet to be seen, but hopefully, it’s water under the bridge between those two.
