Late last week, we reported on a lawsuit involving Drake and his number-one smash, "Janice STFU." Songwriter Avi Hirschfield claims he wrote the song's hook and that the Canadian megastar allegedly stole it after receiving the demo.
As the story goes, Hirschfield found an FnZ beat. FnZ is the producer duo behind "Janice STFU," and back in January of 2026, all they had was the melody without any drums. Hirschfield then recorded an entire song along to the instrumental. Once he sent it back to FnZ, the duo allegedly sent it to Drake, who then took the hook and used it for his song. While FnZ are credited as songwriters on the track, Hirschfield isn't, and that's the crux of his legal complaint.
“The immense success of Janice STFU is due principally to the song’s chorus, which is a literal, word-for-word, note-for-note taking,” Hirschfield's lawsuit explained.
Drake and his team are remaining adamant that none of this is true. A rep for the superstar rapper is even claiming that Drake doesn't know who Hirschfield is. “Drake wrote this song and has no connection or knowledge of this person, full stop,” Drake's representative alleged.
According to new reporting from Complex, Hirschfield's original demo has been released as part of evidence from the lawsuit. You can hear the chorus at the 45-second mark of the video below.
Avi Hirschfield Releases Evidence Against Drake
"Janice STFU" was immediately the big hit from ICEMAN back in May of 2026. With ICEMAN going number one on the Billboard 200, "Janice STFU" found its way to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Much of this has to do with just how sticky and catchy that chorus is.
At this time, the case is being fought in the court of public opinion. Stans are going to call the above evidence AI. Others are going to say this is a slam dunk case for Hirschfield.
Ultimately, that is up for the courts to decide. At this time, all claims made against Drake are allegations.
