Don Toliver has submitted himself for numerous Grammy Awards, although one of the categories feels a bit off.

Don Toliver has had an incredible year thanks to the release of his album, OCTANE. Overall, this is one of the best mainstream rap albums of the year, and it has put him in a new tier of stardom.

That said, it is almost time for awards season, and Toliver wants some Grammys. Earlier today, it was revealed that he submitted OCTANE for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. Meanwhile, he submitted "E85" for Best Rap Song, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Melodic Rap Performance. This was followed up with a submission for "BODY" in the Best Rap Performance category.

However, one submission has caught many by surprise. He is submitting himself for Best New Artist. If you know his history, then you understand just how brazen this is.

Don Toliver Could Win Some Grammys Next Year

Don Toliver's first album was in 2018 with Donny Womack. It was released one day before Astroworld, which had Toliver's breakout feature on the song "Can't Say." Since that time, Toliver has released a plethora of albums and has been a mainstay of the festival circuit.

Needless to say, he is by no means a newcomer. Of course, non-newcomers have been given this kind of treatment at the Grammys before. Victoria Monet won Best New Artist a few years ago despite being an industry veteran.

Regardless, this latest submission has led to questions about the Grammys process and how it has designated artists over the years. Whether or not Toliver gets a nomination still remains to be seen.
