In the midst of JAŸ-Z’s triumphant 2026 run, we finally have a release date for his upcoming HBO Max docuseries. Today, Hov revealed that the eight-part series, titled JAŸ-Z in 8, will premiere at 8 p.m. EST on Friday, September 18th, with two episodes airing weekly.
The docuseries will see Hov break down his life and his bars from eight of his projects alongside Rick Rubin, who serves as the interviewer, executive producer, and director (marking his directorial documentary debut, per Billboard). The trailer sees JAŸ dive into his writing process and more with Rubin.
The HBO Max series falls in line with much of what JAŸ-Z has been pushing this year: honoring a legacy that began 30 years ago with Reasonable Doubt. “Can’t Knock the Hustle” and “What More Can I Say” to “Meet the Parents’ and “The Story of O.J.” are among the songs that will be explored at length, along with other songs from Reasonable Doubt, Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, The Blueprint, The Black Album, American Gangster, Watch the Throne and 4:44.

The announcement comes just before Hov gears up for a few shows overseas. After selling out Yankee Stadium for three nights in July and an excellent performance with the Roots at the Roots Picnic earlier this summer, JAŸ-Z will be performing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on September 4th and 5th. Then, he’ll be heading to Paris on September 10th to take over the Stade De France. In October, he will be performing at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on October 23 and October 24.
