It's been a long time since Derez De'Shon broke out in 2017 with his song "Hardaway," but his work remains compelling. His new album I'm Not Ok But... continues his forays into self-described "pain music," reflecting on hardship and determination on his way to hip-hop's pantheon of stars. The Atlanta rapper enlisted various guests for the 14-track project, including Young Blifford, Morray, T-Rell, Sy Ari Da Kid, Raysean, BHM Pezzy, and Luh Dj. Much of the production employs soft keys and ghostly chords to paint Derez's pictures of industry struggle and combating opposition. It doesn't rewrite his formula, but I'm Not Ok But... is a very representative record for his artistry.
