The Weeknd's "Starboy" (Review)
Earlier this week I came across a tweet from a music blog hyping a new artist as "mysterious," and for a second I thought I had travelled back in time to 2011. Mystery had been a prized value all throughout 20th Century pop music, having a hand in popularizing Led Zeppelin's fourth album, Jim Morrison's identity as a quasi-religious figure, Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" myth, and various Tupac death conspiracies, but the internet changed everything.

Since debuting last year, Drake's OVO Sound Radio installation on Apple's Beats 1 has proven a huge force in debuting music by already-established stars as well as breaking new talent like Kodak Black, dvsn, and WizKid. Obviously, it's an engine that's benefitted its creator the most, creating huge events out of the debuts of What A Time To Be Alive, "Summer Sixteen," and VIEWS, but the 6 God has spread the love too.

By the time the next edition of Top Tracks drops, it'll almost be December, which means that in terms of music releases, we're entering the year's equivalent of garbage time. We've still got projects from The Weeknd, Childish Gambino, Gucci Mane, and Drake on the way in 2016, but beyond that, don't expect too many surprises in term of full-length projects. What you can bank on, though, are some new singles dropping in order to carry hype into the new year. Let's start shaping up that early 2017 release calendar.
Is The Weeknd Releasing Two Songs This Friday? [UPDATE: He's Dropping Them Thursday]

The Best Hip Hop Songs (On Spotify) Of September 2016
Earlier this year, HNHH launched a Spotify playlist called FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now. The playlist is updated on a daily basis. It lives on Spotify and thus is inherently imperfect, because not all super-hot hip hop songs have been added to Spotify. Still, the playlist is generally representative of the best new releases in hip hop and R&B.

Abel Tesfaye, AKA The Weeknd, has had one of the most unexpected career paths of any R&B artist in the new millennium. Basically paving the way for every ensuing singer/rapper who's warranted the "mysterious" tag when first emerging, his early tracks paired The-Dream's Lothario musings with an indie-influenced, lo-fi sound, and druggy themes. After major label move Kiss Land flopped commercially and critically, he went back to the drawing board and returned with a pop sheen courtesy of superproducer Max Martin.

Last week's biggest news story continued to be The Game and Meek Mill's beef, which has now spiraled out to include accusations of ratting, an alleged brawl with Beanie Sigel, and
Is The Weeknd Releasing A Collaboration With Daft Punk?
2016 has been a very good year for music, and that might be getting even better. In an unusual turn of events, YourEDM connected the dots on a Billboard interview from July in which Republic Records A&R Wendy Goldstein mentioned that The Weeknd and Daft Punk were working together.
Pharrell To Perform With Daft Punk And Stevie Wonder At Grammys [Update: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, John Legend To Perform]
Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" was easily one of the biggest songs of the summer, but its acclaim goes a lot further than the dancefloor. The robotic duo are up for four Grammys including record of the year, and album of the year, which pretty much guarantees them some room for an ambitious performance-- and some new details have confirmed just this.
Daft Punk Contributing To Kanye West's New Album
As reported by Fake Shore Drive, French electronic music duo Daft Punk are contributing to Kanye West's sixth studio album, which we still know very little about at this point. 'Ye sampled their track "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" on his 2007 single "Stronger," but this is their first time actually recording together. The G.O.O.D.
