Jay Electronica Offers "Peace" To Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent
You may remember a certain Periscope session that Jay Electronica shared back in February, where the rapper made some candid remarks about both 50 Cent ("We will slap 50 Cent’s eyeballs loose out his scalp”) and Kendrick Lamar ("Kendrick is my son, Kendrick is my baby, Kendrick wishes he could be me").
Jay Electronica Is Going On Tour
Jay Electronica’s Periscope streams have been getting more attention than his music (or lack thereof) lately, but apparently the mysterious rapper is ready to do a few performances around the United States. The 5-date tour is about as short as you can get while still calling something a tour. It makes only west coast stops, with the exception of one date in Chicago. Check out the list of dates below and a tour poster up top.
TDE President Dave Free Responds To Jay Electronica's Kendrick Diss, Jay Claps Backs
Over the weekend, things took a turn for the strange when Jay Electronica's Periscope stream resulted in a diss against Kendrick Lamar (and a threat to slap 50 Cent). At first it didn't really seem like Jay Elect was dissing Kendrick, in fact he appeared to be defending him against his fans, before later alleging Kendrick's his son.
Jay Electronica Calls Kendrick Lamar His "Son," Threatens To Slap 50 Cent
As far as we know, Jay Electronica doesn't have an album on the way, but he has opened a Periscope account, and he got pretty comfortable speaking his mind via live stream Friday night. Jay seemed to be in a pretty excitable mood while answering fan questions in the back of his car, letting viewers know how he felt about a few rap's popular topics.
Jay Electronica To Release "Exhibit A" & "Exhibit C" On Vinyl
Jay Electronica is known in equal parts for his prodigious rapping talents and for his infuriating refusal to put out new music. He is the most self-effacing rapper ever, and he continues to torment his fans with the announcement that his only two singles ever, "Exhibit A" and "Exhibit C," will be available for purchase on vinyl on Black Friday (November 27) for Record Store Day.
CMJ Takeover Recap: Jay Electronica, Donmonique & More
Last night, the HNHH-sponsored CMJ Takeover went down at Santos House Party in NYC. Although we only really announced the event a day prior, fans came out in hoards, likely for the headliner, Jay Electronica. The reclusive rapper killed his set, but not before proclaiming, "My name is Jay Electronica. I'm from New Orleans, Louisana. The state of hip-hop is fucked up." What do you think of his statement?
J. Cole, Diddy, Jeezy & More March On 20th Anniversary Of The Million Man March
Today, October 10, thousands gathered in Washington D.C. for the Justice Or Else march, which comes on the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March, led by Minister Louis Farrakhan, who also led today's march. Many of hip-hop's elite, including Diddy, Jeezy, Snoop Dogg, J. Cole, Ty Dolla $ign, and Jay Electronica, showed up to walk and show solidarity in the fight against police violence.
Transplant Rap: 9 Rappers Who Blew Up Away From Home
With his debut album Only Way Is Up finally out, rapper K Camp is really able to secure himself as success in the rap game-- or at least, that's the hope. For the past year or two, Kristopher Cambell has been delivering massive hits in Atlanta to great success and everyone's enjoyment. What's funny though, is despite his successes and a particular ear for the desires of the A-Town market, K Camp's origins couldn't be more far from Atlanta; in fact he initially heralded all the way from Milwaukee.
Jay Electronica Disses Drake & J. Cole During Live Show
In hip hop, one of the most important factors in determining an artist's legacy and greatness is still the album. Although some would argue that the medium is past its prime, debates about "legends" or even "best rappers alive" usually involve the artists' discography, which is why this latest Jay Electronica story is so hilarious. During a performance in London last night, the albumless wonder called himself "the God of hip hop" and sent shots at two artists in competition for that title, Drake and J. Cole.
Jay Z Brings Out Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek, Jeezy & Jay Electronica During "B-Sides" Concert In NYC
New Yorkers (who happen to be TIDAL users) were treated to a historic performance last night (May 16). Not only did Hov perform rarities from his back catalog, the TIDAL boss also brought out many surprise guests, including the reunion of the early '00s Roc-A-Fella lineup.
10 Drumless Hip-Hop Tracks
What's that? Hip hop without the drums? Does that exist? Is it even possible? Well, it does exist in some form. While hip hop is almost defined by its drums, there are instances where rapping takes place over an absence of drums. Whether it's Nas kicking off his Untitled album or Outkast getting galactic on ATLiens, some cool tracks have been created without that classic boom-bap rhythm.
Jay Electronica Calls Kanye West A "Black God," Talks Young Thug & O.T. Genasis
We may never get Jay Electronica's "Act II: Patents of Nobility", though last month, we came one leak closer with "Road to Perdition".
Top Tracks of The Week: March 3 - March 9
Here it is, the once-a-week look at the tracks toward the top of our charts that you need to know about. Keep in mind that these tracks are culled from the very top of our Top 100 and, by their very nature, lean toward more popular artists. We still think these tracks are worthy of your attention, but if you need a look at artists you may have missed, take a look at Underrated Audio. With no outright superstars to talk about this week, our top tracks consisted of quite a few up-and-comers (and several familiar faces we haven't heard from in a while).
The Road To Jay Electronica's "Act II: Patents Of Nobility"
Jay Electronica is now 38 years old. It's been nearly eight years since his first mixtape surfaced on the web, nearly five years since he signed with Roc Nation, and nearly four years since he claimed his debut album was finished. Album delays are commonplace these days, but four years? We heard a version of "Shiny Suit Theory" days after Jay E. signed with Hov; that was in November of 2010, and, as far as we know, a version of the track will still appear on the album.
Jay Electronica Announces Tour Dates In Europe & China
Jay Electronica is an unpredictable dude. He's released some of the most acclaimed stand alone tracks of the last few years, but has yet to release a debut album, and has been something of a recluse over the last little while, moving to London and rarely making public appearances. It comes as a surprise then, that the rapper has announced a new tour, and in regular Jay Elec fashion, he's not doing the usual rounds.
13 Essential Jay Electronica Tracks
Jay Electronica is a strange cat. The New Orleans-born MC now resides in London, where very few rappers decide to claim home. He's released music sporadically throughout his 11 year career, failing to deliver a long-awaited full-length project despite signing to Roc Nation MGMT and rapping alongside the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean and Jay Z.
Jay Electronica Vents About Crime & Race In America
We've seen a lot of artists speak out following the recent developments in both Eric Garner and Mike Brown's case, with both victims being killed at the hands of a police officer, but neither police officers receiving any sort of charge.
Common Announces "Nobody's Smiling" Tour With Jay Electronica
After Jay Electronica hopped on Common's remix of "Kingdom", the two have followed up to join forces for an entire "Nobody's Smiling" tour. The tour dates aren't extensive, but they hit several key spots across the United States-- no Canada dates this time around though.
Jay Z & No I.D. In The Studio With Jay Electronica
Jay Electronica has been popping up here and there in the past year, although for the most part, he still remains elusive.
Jay Electronica To Appear On Common's "Kingdom" Remix [Update: Remix Debuts At AAHH!Fest]
Jay Electronica has emerged from hiding to appear at AAHH!Fest in Chicago alongside some of hip-hop's finest. Prior to his set, Elec spoke briefly with Revolt TV about the festival and his upcoming work, specifically a remix he recorded alongside AAHH!Fest's co-sponsor Common. Claiming a remix to Com's "Kingdom" single has already been produced, Elec also commended the song's originator his efforts alongside Kanye West in creating the music festival.
