Disney's Fox buyout may have changed the schedule a bit.

We might be witnessing the end of a 19-year-old movie franchise next year. The first X-Men film with Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry hit theaters in 2000, and Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters next year. Disney is completing their buyout of 21st Century Fox, which means that the X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four are all heading back home to Marvel. With that in mind, it looks like Fox's Dark Phoenix may be the last film in the franchise, before Marvel and Disney reboot everything and make way for their next phase of films.

The New Mutants will also be included for the end of the Fox/X-Men relationship. Based on a group of younger mutants who later become X-men, the film will be the first true superhero horror story to come from Marvel (unless you count the first Blade, which wasn't necessarily a horror flick). Game of Thrones sisters Massie Williams and Sophie Turner (Arya and Sansa Stark, respectively) are set to star in each movie. Turner will star as the titular villain in Dark Phoenix, while Williams will play Wolfsbane in The New Mutants.

According to ComicBook.comIMAX released their quarterly earnings report, and they also gave investors a look at upcoming films slated be released in the popular format. X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants were included in the list of 2019 films, with final release dates being revealed. Dark Phoenix, which was originally scheduled for a November 2018 release, was moved to March before getting the new updated release date of February 14, 2019. The New Mutants, originally slated for a release this past April 13, was moved to February 2019, before eventually getting the new date of August 2, 2019.
