What’s New In Battle Rap (November 25)

Battle rap is quickly growing as a culture. What was almost completely relegated to street corners and Youtube a few years ago has garnered national recognition, more tv programming, Pay-Per-View events, and other attention of the mainstream media. Hip Hop icons like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Drake have put on events for the battle scene and at this rate things can only continue to expand. That being the case, we’re here to keep you updated on all things battle rap. It’s always a great time to join the culture.

It’s been a big couple of weeks for battles, guys. Most of the battle releases here have some rather big names attached to them. Top tiers everywhere. Not all of the battles lived up the hype (and some didn’t even happen), but overall it’s been a good couple of weeks. But of course, Daylyt found a way to get himself talked about for all the wrong reasons.

A New Jersey legend and New Jersey’s most improved have a clash in this U Dubb battle. Arsonal’s battle platform in Jersey was the perfect stage for a battle like this.

This battle is long even for URL standards. Of course, the first ten minutes are intros and promos. But get past all of that and you’ll see what most fans are calling one of Chess’ best performances so far.

This battle from Rare Breed Entertainment’s “Validation 5” proved to be entertaining and pretty amusing for the most part. Many are saying this is the Bonnie performance they have been waiting for since she started rising through the ranks.

These two battlers, both repping Innuendo, put on a show for the west coast crowd at The Bunker for King of the Dot. Fresco hasn’t battled much recently, but whenever he shows up for the Cali crowd they love him.

This battle features E. Ness bringing his famous entertaining flow (bar quality varies depending on who you ask). B Magic on the other hand is more known for bars than a delivery that’ll get you hyped. But one thing’s for sure, the hype man behind E. Ness amplifies any battle (and has since Grizzlemania).

A lot of people were hyped when this battle was announced. And why wouldn’t they be? Two of the biggest names in battle rap and an event presented by Mistah F.A.B.? Sounds good. But with an eight minute long video (two minutes taken up by ads and F.A.B. talking), low quality audio, and underwhelming performances from both battlers, it didn’t live up to the hype.

Neither of these guys have had a busy year, but Prep had more riding on this battle. Last year he was a rookie who got bodied by Chilla Jones and hasn’t been seen on stage since. He came back determined to not let it happen again.

If you like quality bars, then just seeing these names should let you know this a battle for you. This Massachusettes battle was a home game for Chilla, and he did not disappoint his home crowd.

Farrell travelled to Australia to battle Matt Klein for Real Talk’s “7^th Birthday”. When Matt Klein didn’t show up, Farrell ended up battling Dizaster, who came equipped with a wig and an Aussie accent.

As you may have heard, Daylyt didn’t show up to this battle against DNA and URL’s “N.O.M.E. 6”. There have been several accounts of Math Hoffa’s goons threatening Daylyt and chasing him from the venue, but that’s one theory. Daylyt put out a music video titled “No Show” in which he attributes the reason to URL messing up the audio in his last battle.
