Switch your ID.

PlayStation gamers have been asking Sony for the ability to change their ID tags for years at this point. Sony has finally heard those cries. As announced via the PlayStation BlogSony is opening a beta for PSN name changes. The PSN ID change beta is part of the PlayStation Preview Program, and will be accessible to users who have pre-registered as testers for previous PS4 system software betas. The blog states that, "During the preview program, you will be able to change your online ID as many times as you want. The first change is free, and changes after that will cost $9.99 USD / CAD. For PlayStation Plus members, it will cost $4.99 USD/ CAD after the first change. Changes to online ID can be made through the Settings menu or via the Profile page of your PS4."

When games change their ID, they can choose an option to have their old name appear next to their new one. The method will help friends recognize your new name, but it cannot be adjusted once chosen. The PSN ID change will work on PS4 games originally published after April 1, 2018. Many of the most popular PS4 games that were released prior to that date will work as well, but beware, several games will not have the PSN ID change function. If gamers run into an issue with their new ID, they can revert back to their old one once during the beta testing.
