This is the gunman's attempt to heal his broken community.

Two months ago, Nikolas Cruz enacted a homicidal rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Equipped with a semi-automatic rifle, the 19 year-old blasted through the school's hallways, killing 17 innocent people in the process. Cruz was eventually found by police and promptly detained, and is now awaiting his judicial fate in relation to his heinous crimes.

In an effort to mend the grief and despair he has inevitably manifested throughout the Parkland area, Cruz is looking to "heal the community" in any manner he can.

When the gunman turns 22, he is set to inherit a $800,000 trust fund in relation to his mother passing away. Speaking to a Broward County judge on Wednesday, Cruz's lawyer Melissa McNeil notes how "Mr. Cruz does not want those funds, whatever money that he is entitled to. He would like that money donated to an organization that the victims’ family believes would be able to facilitate healing in our community or an opportunity to educate our community about the issues that have ripened over the last four or five months."

Howard Finkelstein, another member of Cruz's legal team, exclaimed to the judge "let it go to those who have been hurt, period."

Cruz's lawyers are currently investigating if the instalments are paid monthly or yearly, and whether or not he is still entitled to the money.
