Guardians of the Galaxy was a surprise hit for Marvel Studios. When it first launched in 2014, no one expected the film to gross over $700 million at the box office. Suddenly, Marvel had a second profitable superhero team on their hands. The success of Guardians can be attributed to director and writer James Gunn, whose comedic take on the crew resonated with fans worldwide.

Gunn was infamously fired from Disney earlier this year after decade-old tweets he posted resurfaced online. The tweets were in horrible taste, as Gunn sarcastically made fun of rape, pedophilia, and homosexuality. While the Guardians cast has stood behind Gunn, Disney has refused to rehire him. All's well that ends well though, and Gunn was recently hired by Marvel competitor DC to write and possibly direct the next Suicide Squad film. Still, fans hope Disney will stick with the script Gunn wrote for a third Guardians film.

As reported by Comicbook.comthe working title for the third Guardians movie has been revealed. According to a new listing from Production Weekly, the third Guardians of the Galaxy film is listed under the working title of Hot Christmas. Ending the Guardians trilogy with a Christmas movie sounds hilarious, and hopefully, some holiday music is infused into the film. Since James Gunn's firing, the release date for Guardian 3 has been placed on hold.
